The striped referee uniform was introduced in the 1920s after an Arizona quarterback mistook referee Lloyd Olds for one of his teammates and threw him the football. This mistake drove Olds and friend Greg Moe, who owned a sporting goods store, to design a black-and-white-striped uniform that would stand out.
This referee jacket was worn by a man who reffed for local basketball games as well as umpiring for the Asheville Tourists. It was purchased through the family of the original owner. It is cotton with a cotton flannel lining. By Felco.
