A beautiful pair of 19th century French solid brass cathedral altar prickets or candlesticks from the South of France near Montpellier, circa 1880s. Each is raised on three claw feet having shaped triangular bases with the Virgin Mary, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Holy Trinity depicted in relief. The fluted pillars rest on urn-shaped pedestals and taper upwards to wide cups with flared and fluted rims. The prickets sit in a well within the cup to catch the wax drippings. Lovely aged patina.
