Very nicely preserved copy of an early biography of Indian Figther, Samuel Dale [1772-1841], known as the "Daniel Boone of Alabama." He was an American frontiersman, soldier, and politician, who fought under General Andrew Jackson in the Creek War, and later became a brigadier general in the U.S. Army and advocate for Alabama statehood.

Born in 1772, in Rockbridge County, Virginia to Scotch-Irish parents. With their death in 1792, he became responsible for the welfare of eight younger siblings. From 1793–96 he served as a United States Government scout and then served as a guide, leading immigrants into Mississippi over “hostile” Native American lands.

Settling in Alabama, Dale became a key figure in the burgeoning Indian Wars, including against Tecumseh and in the Creek Wars, etc. . Because of his unique ability to travel anywhere, completely  undetected, he became something of a spy – courier, including being responsible for communicating documents to Andrew Jackson, etc.

Claiborne, J. F. H. Life and Times of Gen. Sam. Dale, the Mississippi Partisan. Illustrated by John M'Lenan. New York. Harper & Brothers, Publishers. 1860 233pp.

A good + copy, bound in cloth, lightly shaken with the prelims tender. Some rather minor ex library markings, and light foxing.
