A very scarce original carte de visite of minister and hymnist, Robert Lowry [1826-1899]. One of the most influential hymnists of the 19th century, he penned Shall We Gather at the River, How Can I Keep from Singing, and introduced his most influential hymn, Nothing but the Blood of Jesus at a camp-meeting in 1876.
The carte de visite is inscribed on the rear, though we are uncertain whether it is his hand. We have thus far not been able to trace an example of his autograph. It is priced as unsigned.
The image is bright and clear, corners rounded [for ease of insertion in a CDV album] as somewhat usual. Minor lifting between layers of the card.
