Introduction

Ardmore distillery was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher near the village of Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire, primarily to supply fillings for the famous Teacher's Highland Cream blend. It is one of the very few Highland distilleries to consistently produce peated malt whisky — a style far more commonly associated with Islay. Ardmore's peat character is distinctly different from Islay's maritime smokiness: it is earthy, honeyed, and gently smoky with a sweet, Highland warmth. The combination of this Highland peat smoke with rich Oloroso sherry maturation creates a bold, satisfying flavour profile.

Bottled by Adelphi at only 8 years old and a powerful 59.7% ABV from a full butt yielding 632 bottles, this is youthful, energetic, and intensely flavoured.

Tasting Notes

• Smoke bursts forth, angular, with a clear, unapologetic alcoholic sharpness. Then a simple, yet well-placed sweetness unfolds. Water is essential, not optional: a few drops, and the pepper immediately rears its head. It almost overpowers everything, as if trying to assert its dominance. Only with a good amount of water does it calm down, and the sweetness can breathe again. The smoke remains present, enveloping the entire mouth like a broad scarf. The sweetness accompanies it, restrained, a beautiful balance.
