Posted to No. 401 Squadron RCAF in February 1943, Flying Officer Jack Sheppard operated the Spitfire Mk. Vb coded YO-A with its rather racy bit of nose art from July to October 1943 before the squadron converted to Spitfire Mk. IXs. F/O Jack Sheppard scored 5 confirmed air victories, all on Fw-190s, during his WW2 career before being being shot down and evading capture in August 1944 as Commanding Officer of No. 412 Squadron RCAF.

Designed by R.J.Michell to meet a British Air Ministry specification, the Supermarine Spitfire first flown on March 5th, 1936.
