L'acier inoxydable VG10 (ou V Gold 10) est une production de l'aciériste Japonais Takefu Special Steel Co., Ltd. (武生特殊鋼材株式会社) à Echizen (Japan). Mondialement connu, Takefu produit depuis 1954 certains des meilleurs aciers de coutellerie du monde. Takefu produit, en autres, cet acier VG10, acier inoxydable issu de la Métallurgie des poudres, qui présente des propriétés composites exceptionnelles grâce à une technologie unique de liaison de métaux différents. Il est fabriqué en superposant deux ou plusieurs couches de métaux aux caractéristiques différentes (67 couches pour la lame du Douk-Douk® : 33 couches sur chaque flanc de la lame + le noyau central).

La composition chimique de l'acier inoxydable VG10 est la suivante :

- 1% de carbone.

- 15% de chrome.

- 1% de molybdène.

- 0,25% de vanadium.

- 1,55% de cobalt.

- 0,5% manganèse.

A very high-performance Japanese steel.

VG10 (or V Gold 10) stainless steel is produced by the Japanese steelmaker Takefu Special Steel Co., Ltd. Takefu (Japanese: Takefu) is a world-renowned knife steel manufacturer based in Echizen, Japan. Since 1954, Takefu has been producing some of the finest cutlery steels in the world. Among other things, Takefu produces VG10 stainless steel, a powder metallurgy-based stainless steel that boasts exceptional composite properties thanks to a unique technology for bonding dissimilar metals. It is made by superimposing two or more layers of metals with different characteristics (67 layers for the Douk-Douk® blade: 33 layers on each side of the blade + the central core).

The chemical composition of VG10 stainless steel is as follows:

- 1% carbon.

- 15% chromium.

- 1% molybdenum.

- 0.25% vanadium.

- 1.55% cobalt.

- 0.5% manganese.

Original patterns.

After a special treatment, a unique pattern emerges, reminiscent of Damascus steel, although it is not strictly Damascus steel. However, it is made of high-carbon stainless steel, which gives it an exceptional sharpness and ensures good edge retention. 

The fine structure of the steel makes the blades easy to sharpen with the right tool. Douk-Douk® blades feature irregular horizontal grooves on the side, a wider groove toward the edge, and a very fine, shiny line along the edge. These original patterns are obtained when grinding the blade, and the shiny edge is the result of meticulous honing of the edge.
